About the research
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Rebecca Price and Mieke van der Bijl-Brouwer were deeply impressed by their students’ determination despite an unprepared education system. It became clear to them that in order to address the growing complexities of our world, it is crucial for designers to cultivate resilience.
Building resilience as a designer is not an easy feat. It involves developing a resilient mindset and the capability to navigate uncertainty. Recognizing the importance of this topic, Rebecca Price and Mieke van der Bijl-Brouwer joined forces to conduct extensive research aimed at providing guidance and support to designers in their journey towards resilience and greater well-being literacy.
Over the past two years, their endeavours have included engaging with a diverse community of designers. They have conducted workshops with over 300 talented master’s students, collaborated with 50 dedicated researchers who are shaping the academic landscape, partnered with 50 innovative design practitioners, and made significant contributions to the field through their publications, including numerous articles and conference papers. Community engagement continues to be a primary focus of the project with plans for events and collective learning opportunities in the future.

WHO IS BEHIND IT?
Co-directed by Rebecca Price and Mieke van der Bijl-Brouwer, The Designer Resilience Project is a group of researchers and designers at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands. As a community, we engage in conversations related to design theory, practice, and education to further advance the study of designer resilience.
WHO FUNDED IT?
The Netherlands Initiative for Education Research (NRO) contributes to innovation and improvements in education by coordinating and funding education research and by facilitating the links between educational practice and research. By fostering collaboration between researchers, educators, and policymakers, the NRO plays a vital role in driving evidence-based practices and the continuous improvement of the educational system in the Netherlands.
